About Adventures In Kung Fu

Kung Fu Plaza, which is the oldest and most authentic Chinese and Thai restaurant in Las Vegas, was originally opened in 1974 in Las Vegas before Americans learned Thai food was different from Chinese food. So Alan Wong's parents decided to name the restaurant "Kung Fu," which everybody knew from the hit television show starring David Carradine.

Kung Fu Plaza Imports Mekhong

Named after a major river that flows along the border of Thailand, Mekhong has become a source of pride for Thailand. The spirit is made from indigenous sugar canes, rice, herbs, and spices that give it a balanced sweet and spicy taste indicative of Thai drinks and food. In April, Alan Wong's father, Chain Wong, made a special arrangement to import Mekhong from International Beverage Holdings in New York.

Chumlee From Pawn Stars Visits Kung Fu

Posted by Alan Wong - Sept. 2010

Our most recent notable Las Vegas visitor was none other than Austin "Chumlee" Russell. Chumlee is what I like to call an accidental celebrity, and it could not have happened to a nicer guy with a very big appetite. He was made famous on the History Channel reality documentary series Pawn Stars, which has 5 million viewers and counting. The show is built around the daily activities of the Harrison family and their Las Vegas-based Gold And Silver Pawn Shop.

Kung Fu Plaza Earns Customer Satisfaction Award

Posted by Kung Fu Family On 9:00 AM
Kung Fu Plaza recently received an award of excellence in customer satisfaction as a 2010 Talk of the Town Award recipient. The category was top restaurants from Celebration Media, U.S. (CMUS).

In addition to its own process, Talk of the Town bases ratings on a compilation of more than a dozen different customer review sites, including Yelp, Insider Pages, Angei's List, Google Maps, Google Places, City Search, Yahoo Local, Merchant Circle, Judy's Book, Respond, and Enetez. Kung Fu Plaza is the only Asian restaurant to receive the honor with two specialities (Thai and Chinese).

"The recognition means so much to us because it is based mostly on our customers," said Alan Wong, general manager of Kung Fu Plaza. "We read reviews from various sites because customer feedback is very important to us, but this is the first time someone compiled the scores across many sites; a few I had never read before."

Wong says restaurants can really benefit from tracking customer comments, especially if care is taken to learn more about the reviewer. Some reviewers, Wong said, never rate any restaurant with four stars very favorably. Others consider anything less than five a failing grade. So he suggests looking at every review carefully and comparing it against other reviews.

"What's most important to remember about a restaurant review is that it is not about you," he said. "It is about that individual experience and how you can work harder to ensure more people have the best experiences described by the most generous customers."

Kung Fu Plaza, which is the oldest and most authentic Chinese and Thai restaurant in Las Vegas, was originally opened in 1973. It is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., 365 days a year.

• "I'm a local and love this restaurant. The best thing about this restaurant is its consistency. It's always good and always prepared the same. There is never a guess as to if it will be good the time you go." — Zeben, City Search
