About Adventures In Kung Fu

Posted by Kung Fu Family - April 2010

Kung Fu Plaza, which is the oldest and most authentic Chinese and Thai restaurant in Las Vegas, was originally opened in 1974 in Las Vegas before Americans learned Thai food was different from Chinese food. So Alan Wong's parents decided to name the restaurant "Kung Fu," which everybody knew from the hit television show starring David Carradine.

Kung Fu Plaza Imports Mekhong

Named after a major river that flows along the border of Thailand, Mekhong has become a source of pride for Thailand. The spirit is made from indigenous sugar canes, rice, herbs, and spices that give it a balanced sweet and spicy taste indicative of Thai drinks and food. In April, Alan Wong's father, Chain Wong, made a special arrangement to import Mekhong from International Beverage Holdings in New York.

Chumlee From Pawn Stars Visits Kung Fu

Posted by Alan Wong - Sept. 2010

Our most recent notable Las Vegas visitor was none other than Austin "Chumlee" Russell. Chumlee is what I like to call an accidental celebrity, and it could not have happened to a nicer guy with a very big appetite. He was made famous on the History Channel reality documentary series Pawn Stars, which has 5 million viewers and counting. The show is built around the daily activities of the Harrison family and their Las Vegas-based Gold And Silver Pawn Shop.

Memorial Day Weekend In Las Vegas

Posted by Kung Fu Family On 8:00 AM
Memorial Day Las VegasMemorial Day has a special meaning in the United States, commemorating the U.S. soldiers who died while in the military service. It originally began as Decoration Day, specifically to honor Union and Confederate soldiers following the American Civil War. Later, it was amended to include all service men and women.

As a holiday that officially falls on the last Monday in May, it also marks the beginning of summer. In addition to honoring fallen servicemen and women on Monday, many people associate the weekend leading up to Memorial Day with outdoor barbecues, beer, sporting events, parades, and other activities.

Nowhere is it more true than in Las Vegas. The only busier holiday weekend is New Year's Eve.

Almost every resort in Las Vegas has something planned. The two most prominent features will be daytime beach parties and nighttime club events. Many of them have already closed out ticket presales, but here are the top three and honorable mentions:

Las Vegas Memorial Day Weekend Love Festival. Held at the Palms Las Vegas, this three-day music festival brings together the most in-demand DJs in the world. The two days leading up to the main event feature artists Morgan Page, Green Velvet, Felix Da Housecat, Paul Oakenfold, Chromeo, and Breakdown. Then, on Saturday, twelve more artists represent in Vegas.

Marquee Dayclub at The Cosmopolitan. Opening just a few short months ago, the Marquee Dayclub has already hosted dozens of leading artists, bands, and musicians. Set in a sprawling area with two pools, several bars, and a separate gaming area, the newest club will rock the outdoors with Markus Schulz and Roger Sanchez on Friday. Also playing this weekend: ATB, Laidback Luke, EC Twins, The Captains Of Industry, Above & Beyond, Cedric Gervais, and more. You can learn more here.

Tao Beach at the Venetian. Still one of the biggest and most respected hot spots in Las Vegas, both the Tao Beach and nightclub will be bringing some additional names to the long weekend party, starting with DJ Ross One and Discotech (Joe Maz & Danny Daze). The weekend also includes LMFAO and DJ Erick Morillo. You can learn more about Tao Beach here.

Other highlights to check for Memorial Day weekend include Surrender at Encore Las Vegas, Kanye West’s personal tour DJ at XS Nightclub, and Tiesto at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. In addition to these special events, all of the best known shows will still be running and there will be a mix of concerts ranging from new (Faith Evans, David Guetta, My Chemical Romance) to nostalgia (Air Supply, the Go Gos, CCR).

Las Vegas ThaiA few popular entree items for Memorial Day weekend at Kung Fu Plaza might include Thai barbecue chicken, Thai pork hock, Thai panang vegetarian, Chinese pepper steak, Kung Fu Plaza roast duck, and Mongolian beef. All entrees include steamed jasmine rice, specially imported from Thailand.

Kung Fu Plaza is the oldest and most authentic Thai restaurant in Las Vegas. It was opened in 1973, after the Wong family immigrated from Thailand. The family, like many Thai people, has both Thai and Chinese ancestors. Since, they have been active in Las Vegas and helped shape the Asian community in Southern Nevada. Together, we honor all U.S. service men and women.
